Help

For questions not answered below, please use the Web Request Form.

Create a “Basic” link

  • A “Basic” Go Link is one where the final part of the URL is assigned randomly, such as go.wfu.edu/abc123.
  • These links do not need to be approved and are created immediately.
  • Only links to Wake Forest-related domains (such as wfu.edu, godeacs.com, wakehealth.edu, reynolda.org and others) are allowed.
  • To create this kind of link:
    1. Paste a long URL in the “Basic Option” field.
    2. Hit “Make it Short”
    3. You will see a message with “Success!” and your URL ready for use.
  • NOTE: If a “Basic” link to your URL already exists, you’ll be informed of that Go Link for your use.

Create a “Custom” link

  • A “Custom” Go Link is one where the final part of the URL is assigned by you, such as go.wfu.edu/yourchoicehere.
  • These links are subject to approval and are not live until approved. A response usually happens quickly, but can be delayed outside of normal work hours.
  • Links to any domain with “safe” content are allowed.
  • To create this kind of link:
    1. Paste a long URL in the “Custom Go Link” field.
    2. Type your custom URL in the “Short URL” field.
    3. Hit “Make it Short”
    4. If your Destination URL and Short URL are not in use, you will see a message that your Go Link is out for approval. You’ll get a response by email.
  • NOTE: If your “Short URL” is already in use, you’ll be informed of where it is currently pointing.
  • NOTE: If a Go Link to your “Destination URL” is already in use, you’ll be informed of that link. You can decide to use that link instead or proceed with the creation of your own.

My Links

  • This section allows a Go Link owner to see all of their links. These are organized in sections: Pending, Approved and Denied (if those apply to Go Links you own).
  • The “Denied” section also includes Go Links that are now pointing to pages that no longer exist (“404 errors”). Owners can request a change to fix the broken URL.
  • Owners can see analytics (“Clicks”), request changes to their Go Links and manage co-owners. See below for details.

Request Change

  • If you own a Go Link and you’d like it to point to a new destination URL, go to the “My Links” tab, find the Go Link and click “Request Change” under it.
  • Changes to Custom Go Links must be approved. You’ll receive an email with a response.

Co-ownership

  • Co-ownership allows more than one person to have the Go Link listed in their “My Links” section. This allows more than one person to see the analytics or request a change for a Go Link.
  • Co-ownership is subject to approval by the owner.
  • Co-ownership can be managed by the owner by going to “My Links,” finding the Go Link and clicking on “Manage Co-Owners” under “Destination.”
  • Co-ownership also can be requested if the option is presented when a requestor asks for a Go Link that already exists.

Analytics

  • Under the “My Links” tab, Go Link owners can see the “Clicks” field next to their links.
  • CLicks represents the number of times someone has used this Go Link.
  • For Go Links before June 9, 2020, only the total number of clicks is available.
  • For Go Links after June 9, 2020, a spreadsheet can be downloaded that shows the number of clicks by day.
